Il a introduit le concept de classement connu sous le nom d'UMF (Unique Manuka Factor), qui vise \u00e0 classer le miel de Manuka sur la base des m\u00e9thodes d'essai en laboratoire disponibles \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n<p>Les valeurs UMF \u00e9taient historiquement associ\u00e9es \u00e0 des mesures comparatives en laboratoire. Au fil du temps, d'autres d\u00e9veloppements scientifiques ont permis d'identifier le m\u00e9thylglyoxal (MGO) comme un compos\u00e9 cl\u00e9 mesurable dans le miel de Manuka. La m\u00e9thode de laboratoire utilis\u00e9e pour quantifier les concentrations de MGO est accr\u00e9dit\u00e9e par l'IANZ selon les normes ISO 17025.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis 2008, le professeur Peter Molan a travaill\u00e9 en \u00e9troite collaboration avec le professeur Thomas Henle, dont les recherches ont permis d'identifier le m\u00e9thylglyoxal comme marqueur mesurable dans le miel de Manuka. Le professeur Molan est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 en septembre 2015.
